How to identify a clique

1.Cliques are groups of people who share the same interests and like to exclude anyone who they feel doesn’t fit in with their group.

2.Most cliques are led by a few of the more popular kids who make decisions about which kids gain entry to the clique.

3.Whether you are part of a clique or not keep in mind that excluding people from social groups often leaves them feeling sad and alone.

4.At times cliques go beyond excluding others and begin bullying middle school kids who are not a part of their group.

Tips how to aviod cliques

1. Keep your circle of friends open to anyone who might have an interest in meeting you or talking about something you enjoy.

2.Look and listen for people who share a common interest with you.

3.Confront friends the first time there is any discussion about excluding or bullying.

4.Talk with your friends about meeting new people.

5.Be yourself. Over and over again middle school students share this advice with new students. Rather than feeling awkward trying to fit in with a group of people find a group that feels natural for who you are.
